A brief history (introduction)
Some facts of a church's history are easy to relate; others are not. We can talk readily of the construction of the building, and a history of the clergy. We can talk of building alterations and special events. Less easy to capture is the real story behind all this, though: the lives enriched by worship; the weekly meeting with Christ of a faithful group; the deep friendships given a third dimension by a mutual relationship with God.
Behind every baptism is a personal story of faith. Some of these are dramatic turnarounds of lifestyle, others are a quiet living out of Christian faith nurtured in home and church. This history here is the surface level history. But never forget that the surface level of buildings, groups and clergy gives rise to the community of faith and personal relationships with God, which are the true nature of a church.
