Prayer at Christchurch

Photo - Pray first cornfield

"They all joined together constantly in prayer ... They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."  (Acts 1:14, 2:42)

Throughout the last 2000 years, whenever God has moved in power, the Church has been marked by a deep devotion to prayer.  At Christchurch, we want to see God move in power in our city and land, and to see the name of Jesus known, loved and adored once again.  And so we are trying to become a church that roots everything we do in prayer - a PRAY FIRST church.  More than that, we want to gather with all the churches of the city to seek God's kingdom and so we love to share in city-wide prayer initiatives.

This coming year, a key priority is to develop a culture of devotion to prayer in our church.  We are encouraging everyone to do the Prayer Course, to help us grow in our understanding, joy and confidence in prayer.

We are also starting a regular pattern of weekly prayer meetings:

  • Tuesday prayer breakfast 7.15am - Currently at the vicarage.  Ask Rev Mark for info!
  • Thursday prayer meeting 9.15am - St James, Uplands church hall

We are also planning some occasional deeper dives into prayer, so watch this space for more information about:

  • half-nights of prayer
  • prayer days
  • seasons of prayer and fasting

We'd love you to come and join us as we seek the kingdom of God together!

"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)
